Book Review

I still love reading Enid Blytons, every now and then.. however, when I spotted ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ at the flea market, I had no idea it was a children’s book. It turned out to be so much fun that I read it over the weekend, start to finish. It takes a dig at British politics, reminiscent of the series 'Yes, Minister'.

It’s about this 12 year old boy, Joe.. he and his friend Ajay come to know that their favorite park is about to be closed to make way for ‘civilization'.
Joe, who knows the Prime Minister is coming to their area, goes to see him, and, shouts a lot at him, calling  the PM ‘dafty’, and telling him about other fun things the country needs, like doing away with alarm clocks so people wouldn’t be cross in the morning , bubble gum blowing to be an Olympic event and so on.

The PM calls them the next day to his ‘residence’(10, ….as you know), and when they reach , he hands over the PMship to Joe.

The rest of the book is all about how a 12- year old  tries to make things more fun for the country, how a lady who wants to be PM, tried to dethrone him and creates an ‘Anti-Silliness league’. ..
I won’t give away the rest of the tale, of course – in case you want to read it – but, yes , the Park lived happily ever after. 😊
