Post Diwali

Image
Hi,all! For those who celebrated Diwali and New Year-hope they were great! What a long weekend everyone's had, back in India.Wow!!(Hope I'll be enjoying it too, next year) --- On to some Diwali heights: - Height of laziness: Sending a copy-pasted pic of Diwali wishes(or an ecard) to someone, instead of typing a simple'Wishing you a Very Happy Diwali and a Prosperous New Year', which takes all of a minute and adds a personal touch to it. - Height of a lil more laziness : Sending the email from your office id,so your designation, company name,et al appear on it,as also the traditional message of' This message is confidential and meant only to be read by the person to whom it is sent....' - Height of further laziness : Sending the same card to all the people on your messenger lists/address book. - Height of still further laziness : Someone to whom a card was sent, pressing 'Reply to all', and, adding his name to the wish, without deleting the original sender&#

Happy?Contented?

Hi,all- after a somewhat tiring week, courtesy the 'under the weather' health, things are pretty much back to normal now. (TGIF- and TGIS,tomorrow). So, what happened, that was newsworthy? Firstly, let me mention Keshi's latest post. She observed what I'd also observed on some of the blogs I surfed, recently-namely,that people seemed to be negative,moody..in other words, not too happy with life the way it has been treating them (I observed it mostly on the newer blogs I visited, not on my usual favourites who are pretty cheerful(And,that's why they're my favourites,na!), incidentally) As Keshi says, why do we consider our minor problems to be such major ones? Look around and see people in your circle-friends, family,et al-at least 2-3 or them will be struggling with problems which would be much greater in intensity than yours. By comparison, our problems(At least, mine) seem to pale in comparison. And, it always helps me in appreciating the way life has moved for me

Slow Down

Image
Hi,all...been a mite under the weather,lately-probably coz of the changing weather and the viral infections going around. So, I took two days off,as per Doc's recommendation. In a way, I think it's the body's way of telling one'Slow down-if you can't,I'll make you).  -------- Whew-only here would you find prizes being offered for anything under the sun.For example, you get to enter a raffle,if you pay your car-driving fines online. And,if you pay your water-electricity bills online, you also stand to win a prize in a draw. -------- Vocabulary deviations, better know as Freudian slips, always make me smile. So,how about these, which I read recenrly: - Salutary confinement instead of solitary confinement. - Familiarity breeds attempt. (Guys attempting to befriend gals) - Add assault to injury - Civil serpents(for someone bugged with our Public Sector employees)  And,how about a fractured quote like 'tip of the slung'?(Guess what that stands for?

Quiz,What if,et al

Hi,all- just a small post, to begin the weekend. More coming up shortly!:) 7 Words : Question: See if you can figure out what these words have in common 1 Banana 2 Dresser 3 Grammar 4 Potato 5 Revive 6 Uneven 7 Assess --------------------------- What if real life had sounds, like in movies?Well, youtube has a video for that- see it . I was quite amused at the simplicity of it all-and,what a nice change it would bring,if we could add background music to real life, whenever we wanted. ----------- Frankly, I quite liked my slogan last week. But,they picked another one, which I thought was not sooo funny... ----------- Only one girl (a blonde) signed up for the high school wood-working class. The shop teacher said, "This course may be a bit out of your league. Do you have any experience at all working with tools?" "What exactly do you mean?" "Well, what's the difference between a nail, a screw and a bolt?" the shop teacher asked. She pondered the question

Spitting Part II

Image
Thought for the day:The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive. Oooph!!So much to write about,so many topics..and,yet,the work schedule over the past few days just leaves me wanting to sit blankly in front of the TV screen, watching either a movie or a comedy serial, after my evening walk. Anyway, things seem to be calming down.*touchwood*.So, I should be able to post regularly from today. ---------- Going a step further from the Llama ad,let me ask-how would you feel if you were offered 5000 dirhams(A whopping 65k Indian Rs), for just giving some information? And,how would you feel if you were a gutka/paan masala/paan enthusiast? Well, that's what the Municipality's next step is-they've offered a reward of the afore-mentioned amount for each shop/shopkeeper/seller of the stuff that you let them know of. Of course, for the shop, it means curtains(shutdown),for the seller it means d

Nice Weekends

Image
Hi,all! Just taking benefit of the break-I usually don't get addicted to TV,but, today being a holiday, the mood is light..and,imagine-there's Comedy Circus coming on one channel,Golmaal(The original one) on another.Naturally,Comedy Circus wins-coz I've seen Golmaal umpteen number of times. And,oops-I forgot-I think Paani Puri(The program, not the food) also comes today?? ---- Come to think of it-these two days have been unusual-first,horror-I watched one horror movie and one TV program, yesterday-first,it was Resident Evil on TV-somewhat scary, that one, though, not to the extent of,say,The Exorcist(Never saw that one, except for the trailers). And,then, saw 'Shhh..Phir koi hai',all about an atma out for revenge, which 'enters' a lil girl's real life body.Anyway,no more horror for the next few days.It becomes too boring after a while. -----  On to other topics. Tell me,do you gesticulate wildly when talking on the phone? For example, when you're giving directi

Pic: Did you think that you have a 'high' job? Well, think of the crane operator at the top of Burj Dubai, currently the tallest building in the world!!(Can you click the pic to get a better view?) Waise, the next building to be taller than this one has also just been announced in Dubai! How often does it happen that someone comes near you, looking disappointed, and, tells you that he/she was not successful at something, you,  instead of sympathizing with them, retort saying smugly’ I knew it’, ‘I told you so’,’ Now you won’t act so heroic’, and, to yourself, you say ‘serves him/her right’. Similarly, whenever you’re in a group, and people are gossiping about something bad having happened to someone either in the group or someone absent, how often do you quickly join in and nod in agreement, add your own two bits, thereby ensuring that the person’s reputation is smeared a bit more? If the person is present, he/she either goes red with anger and retorts, or, he/she moves away,

Spot the Spit

Image
A new ad from Dubai Municipality brought the first smile of the day on  my face. It shows a stained wall(Stains which look like everything from simple spit to paan masala spit to cough spit to pee(?perhaps a late night one, risked by someone when no-one's around!!), with the caption' Spitting in public areas is something Llamas do!You are different, don't spit in public places.' How simple, and how 'to the point'- Frankly, I feel astonished to see that some people just cannot give up their spitting habits, even in a city like Dubai. I mean, the Municipality's put up so many dustbins at convenient places around the city, so if you must spit, why not there? Why do it on walls, on the ground, anywhere? Perhaps it's a bit like the smoking habit- it makes the spitters feel 'I have the power- I spit where I want, when I want'?  I feel a bit of consciousness spread via such ads might help make the city better. However, what would really work is fines- jus

Lucky Charms

Image
Hi,all.Tell me, did you believe in lucky charms in your childhood?Do you believe in them now? I don't mean charm bracelets et al.I'm referring to items of daily use, which somehow refuse to leave us(Or,vice versa),and hence they continue to be a part of our life for ages. ---- I was reminded of this because of a simple happening. My simple Casio watch conked off, alongwith the simpler Skagen one.(I love simple things,as I said earlier-the more show-offy,the less I like it). Both had been affected by moisture seeping in,in the last few months, when I insisted on taking my health walks for an hour, inspite of humid weather. So, I dug deep into the stuff I'd brought here six years back, and found it- my Citizen watch.And,voila-in 15 minutes of me putting it on,it was running..the next day,it was running ahead of time. Let me go back in time-this watch was given to me nearly twenty four years ago,by one of my Mamas(Mom's brother). At that time, any 'imported' item in India
