Movie Review-Rocket Singh

(That's one of the screens of Fame, Baroda) To be frank, I went to see this movie on an impulse. Was passing outside Fame cinemas yesterday at 0830 AM, saw the BO(No,not Body Odour, but, Box Office) window empty, for the first day, first show, walked up,smiled at the lady and the guy(It always makes people happy to have a smiling client, first thing in the morning, I feel) who were just switching the lights on, on their side of the BO. Had to wait five minutes, and then got my ticket.(It being Friday, I also have a holiday, a la Dubai, while the rest of India(read'family') is at work. LOL. Now, I thought I was given the first row from the back, the way it looked, at 180 degrees from my side, on her computer monitor- couldn't see any more rows behind, that is. Imagine my surprise when it turns out that it's the middle seat, in roughly the middle of the hall. And, all the tickets that were sold were either in that row or in the absolute first row in front of the screen...

Movie Review-What's Your Raashee

There's no pleasure like the fun of seeing a new movie in the hall. Neither a DVD(which releases after I've read at least a dozen reviews) or a pirated print(Arghh! Those colours) can replace the pure fun of seeing a fun (I usually don't see any other kind) movie in a good hall, Lamcy's halls being one of my favourites. I'd picked a side aisle this time, with only one seat next to it, hoping that no-one would take it. But, no such luck- a cap-wearing guy who insisted on putting his feet up on the seats in front(since they were empty) made me feel quite irritated. Why do people treat a cinema hall as if it's their property to spoil? (Come to think of it, they wouldn't spoil their own property like this). But, it was slightly better(there's always something to be thankful for, as I say) than last week's Dil Bole Hadippa experience of the 'wide' Uncle who should have taken two tickets to seat himself(That review coming up later), chomping away a...

Movie Review: the Other End Of The Line

Image
Thought for the day: I never think of the future - it comes soon enough. Albert Einstein I haven’t done a movie review since quite some time. But then, maybe it’s because I haven’t had the patience to sit through any recent movies. Give me a movie like ‘Hungama’ or ‘ Bheja Fry’ or ‘ Khosla Ka Ghosla’ and I wouldn’t mind sitting through it all over again.Albeit, on video, not on TV where there umpteen ads to bear in between. I mean, how many snack breaks can you take when you’re trying to follow a strict diet regimen? LOL. But then, that’s a ‘post another day’ tale. On to the movie. ‘The Other End Of The Line’ is a collaboration between our own Adlabs and USA’s MGM, starring Jesse Metcalfe and Shriya Sharan. It is a nice movie, in the true sense of the word. A simple storyline, almost believable and a smooth flow of scenes from the first to the last. It’s all about this Indian girl Priya(Shriya Sharan), working at a call centre for an American Bank where they have to make clients believ...
