Happy?Contented?

Hi,all- after a somewhat tiring week, courtesy the 'under the weather' health, things are pretty much back to normal now. (TGIF- and TGIS,tomorrow). So, what happened, that was newsworthy?

Firstly, let me mention Keshi's latest post. She observed what I'd also observed on some of the blogs I surfed, recently-namely,that people seemed to be negative,moody..in other words, not too happy with life the way it has been treating them (I observed it mostly on the newer blogs I visited, not on my usual favourites who are pretty cheerful(And,that's why they're my favourites,na!), incidentally)

As Keshi says, why do we consider our minor problems to be such major ones? Look around and see people in your circle-friends, family,et al-at least 2-3 or them will be struggling with problems which would be much greater in intensity than yours. By comparison, our problems(At least, mine) seem to pale in comparison. And, it always helps me in appreciating the way life has moved for me so far(And, touchwood, will continue so in the future)

I  had the same thoughts when watching a Discovery T&L program recently, titled' Feast of India'- the anchor was moving around India's cities, trying out the delicacies, which are famous but still, not served in 5 star hotels and the like - like in, say Delhi-  the Parathe waali galli, or, in Rajasthan- Jaipur and Puskhar, with the warm milk, then, another city(I forgot)where he had tea made in burnt out utensils and poured into glasses which was still extremely tasty for him.

But, what I observed behind all this, was the people actually making these delicacies- the people on the streets where he was walking.
There was the shoeshine boy scampering around, looking for the odd dirty shoe so that he could earn a few coins
There was the tea-maker,in ragged clothes, but, looking really happy with his lot in life and the fact that he was serving people
There were also the traditional mithaai(sweet)-makers-rolypoly,but,not at all ashamed of their obesity(Like many people are, when they're rolypoly and elite at the same time).

It made me wonder- what are the dreams of these people, if any? Would they settle in a place like, say, Dubai if they had a chance, and be extremely successful here? Or, do they know anything at all about the world outside theirs? Are they curious about it?

It all comes back to the phrase' ambitious, yet, contented(should I say 'not discontented'?) with where one is in life'...that's what makes one aim higher, but, without moaning, without trying to compare oneself with those who're a step or more above us. Where one looks back at one's own achievements and feels happy, rather than feeling unhappy at someone else's progress, as so many people do! Oh,well! I'd love to see your thoughts on this topic, people!

End joke:

As a younger man, he was in great shape. As an airline pilot , he was required to have a Flight physical every six months. The young blonde nurse took the basic data, weight, height, and blood pressure. His pressure was good, but the heart rate was below 40 beats per minute.

"I cannot put that number down. You'll be denied a licence," she said.
"What can I do?" He replied.
She took his hand and placed it on her left bre*st, saying, "Just think about that for a minute!"
Retaking his blood pressure and heart rate, she stated, "53 will be OK, but you really know how to hurt a girl!"
==
The nurse at the Pathology Clinic was getting a bit beyond it. She was approaching retirement and was continually getting things mixed up. One day, a young man came to the laboratory for a blood test. After a few minutes, the pathologist looked in on the nurse and his patient.
There she was, rapidly stroking the very happy young man's firm ****.
"Good God, NO!" shouted the pathologist. "Stop it at once! I said, 'prick his finger, not the other way round!"

Till next time, keep smiling!

I too wonder when I see faces on car window trying to sell something or some rickshaw puller peddling through a chilly winter day. But I never dared to ask them anything about their life. That would be too disturbing for me. Yes I act selfish for my peace of mind. But I try to do my bit in my own way. I wish more and more people can do just a little bit for these people then the problem won't be such a big one. Because we are too many (middle class) and we really can make a difference.

Research has shown that poor and rich are equally happy as those who are disabled. Sometimes when we assume that those who do not have what we have are unhappy, we are wrong.

Maybe the demands, the expectations from life are very different? Happiness is a warm meal and a place to sleep versus happiness is the next Mercedes model ?

Great post Amit!

First of all, I hope ur feeling better?

Happiness is something that comes from within...but alot of ppl seek happiness in external things. And there r ppl who r happier than ppl who hv all the riches n comforts in life.

That 2nd pic was quite touching.

**It made me wonder- what are the dreams of these people, if any? Would they settle in a place like, say, Dubai if they had a chance, and be extremely successful here? Or, do they know anything at all about the world outside theirs? Are they curious about it?

This para somehow struck a cord with me. Some of us get more opportunities cos we r blessed in many ways than some others r. Yet those others seem to be quite content in their own worlds.

I guess they know that they cant change the whole world but that they can change their own world in a way that keeps em content. Thats the secret that most ppl dunno.

Keshi.
hi there amit....
i would be posting in november now....!!
liked your post...and like you i also have had the same thoughts...there's a sayign that money cant make you happy....but yeah..it can buy you lots of stuff...!!
happy diwali!!!!!
This is such a wonderful post Amit. :)

Sometimes the people who live the most simplest way that others would not choose in their luxurious days are the happiest people possibly.

I do believe they have dreams. Dreams that are alittle different from ours. Dreams that goes beyond their own seas probably or from the simple doll toy the foreigner's kid was carrying..

I would like to think that this people still do have dreams. and maybe somehow of them settled in accepting being poor as their fate not being able to see something beyond their ability...

This post overwhelms me Amit.

Thank you.

Dude,

First of all I would like to say that one should not compare eaach other's problems. Everyone faces a degree of frustration or pain at some point of his/her life. And everyone feels differently about his/her problems. Two individuals connot feel the intensity the same way. So the comparison has to stop.

Sometimes people choose their own path, or have no other choice to choose a path or again are forced to follow a path. Of course these people have dreams... I also wonder how they must be feeling... But if they have a chance to change their lives, am sure they would seize the opportunity.

Hi,Alka..tks for the honest comment...
**But I never dared to ask them anything about their life. That would be too disturbing for me. Yes I act selfish for my peace of mind.**
That's true, since you never know how the opposite person might react to a girl talking to them.I mean,I can draw out most people into talking, right from a taxi driver to a restaurant cashier- to see what makes them tick.
You are sooo right-we can do just a little bit for these people, and, these little bits will finally add up to something big..lovely thought.

Hi,Sol-you're totally right-that's what I was trying to convey-that the tea-seller,et al-all seemed to be so contented!!
----
Hi,Keshi-yes,feeling much better.(Though the headaches remain,on and off..haha-doc said'don't stress urself'..LOL..might as well retire,then!!)
** guess they know that they cant change the whole world but that they can change their own world in a way that keeps em content. Thats the secret that most ppl dunno.***
Wow-I couldn't have expressed it any better.Well said,Keshi!And,glad u liked the jokes.

Hi,Sush-tks for the comment..I'll check ur blog from today(01.11).hehheh.
Re.money-yes,it can buy lots-but,from the lots, how much is really a necessity and how much is something to just pamper the self,is the question.Right?
----
Hi,Amy-tks for that comment...and,you're so right-everyone should have a dream-I mean, that's what motivates them to progress-the poor kid might dream of owning the rich kid's doll someday,as you said..and,the teashop boy might dream of having his own shop someday..And,I wish these people get their wishes!!
-----
Hi,Spot-wow to this comment..I agree- comparison should be restricted to the self-forget what the other person is doing or getting- what were you,one year back, two years back,at the beginning, and what are you now? are the questions to ask.
Re. people who are forced to follow a path due to restrictions, and, whether they would seize the opportunity if they got it-well,it's 'yes and no'-I've seen both types-some who jumped at an opportunity and became successful.Others who had the opportunity, but chose to ignore it coz they were contented with the way life was and were afraid to take the risk...ultimately,what matters is that you should be happy with your decision, right?Tks!!
