I,Me,Myself

I'm disappointed-did people get the first joke in my previous post? I know Red did!*grins at Red*

I,me,myself. Let's face it, at some time or the other,or rather, a lot of the time, we behave like selfish, self-centred ego-maniacs. Some people are more so, some are less so(I like to consider myself in the second category*grins*). The way we behave during our daily routines, says a lot. We don't want to see the other person's perspective at all.
For example, if there's someone who's praising Emirates Airlines, there will always be someone who will say 'Yeh to bade log hain. Hum chhote log to budget airlines mein travel karte hain.'(You are rich/great people. We small ones travel in budget airlines). The other person, never meaning to belittle anyone, looks embarassed. Just go and listen to any conversation in a group. The first few minutes will be pleasantries. Then, begins the bitching, the back-stabbing, the one-up-(wo)manship,the urge to show off who's boss. At least, that's my experience.Even in a gathering of old friends, there will always be someone who,to an innocent dialogues, will reply with a smirk!!

I'm not saying I'm entirely blameless. When I'm in a bad mood, I also go ahead and speak my mind, to put it mildly. Only, now, after quite a bit of experience and having realized the futility of such reactions, I've narrowed down such moods to a minumum. *Touches all the wood around, and says'touchwood'.

I mean, look at our general mentality. Someone is superstitious about, say, breaking a glass in the house, and we'll scorn them openly. In fact, just look back at your day's discussions with people. How often did you react to what someone said, with a scornful line or two? Or,with a rebuke? Let me put it the other way round- How often did you tell someone' That's fantastic',' good work',' you did it-wow'...but,no,it's like we have to pay for 'paying' compliments. And, complimenting anyone is like putting oneself down in one's eyes.

So, our 'I,me,myself' syndrome continues. It's just that we are so wrapped up in our own thoughts and opinions, that if someone even slightly varies with our line of thought, we have to immediately react and try to push our opinion down that person's throat. And, if we know the other person won't listen, we begin our tirade of taunts, oblique hints, backbiting as soon as he/she is out of sight. And, finally, courtesy this vicious circle, no-one is happy. You hate that person, you dislike this one, you have a grudge against that one, this one is a competitor at school/college/work, that one looks more beautiful/handsome than you, this one has a nicer figure than you, that one is more popular than you, this one is richer,.........for everyone, we have to have at least some reason to not be happy with them.

So, are you willing to give this a try? Today,tomorrow- whenever, treat everything and everyone with a smile,or, at least, without a frown. And,decide that you'll be more open with compliments. Say your thank yous, you're a gem, excellent, great, lovely, nice shirt/pant/skirt/trousers/hairstyle,et al.

In other words, forget that the world is out to get you. Whatever the temptation, don't react to anyone with a retort. In the worst case, just smile and turn away. Or, keep quiet and think of pleasant things. Frankly,I try this everyday. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes(a bit rarely, now) I do react annoyedly. But,only after trying to put myself in the other person's shoes and seeing whether they're really helpless or whether they are strategically incompetent. It's just not worth it, people,to be angry/disheartened all the time. Life's too short. (It doesn't mean that we should act happy falsely, either).

And,that's why I love all the blogs and bloggers I visit! The sense of positivity I get when i visit most of you, thrills me no end.:)
(Sol- tell me,did this post make sense to you? Was I able to convey what I wanted to,succintly enough?)
----
A thought to ponder over:
The most difficult phase of life is not when no-one understands you.It is when you don't understand yourself.
(I loved this phrase, too, just like the one in the previous post)
----
So,let's have some fun now: Let me test your General Knowledge:
- Which is heavier - a horse's liver or its gall bladder?
- What is the first line of dialogue Amitabh spoke in Reshma Aur Shera?
- What is the filament of a neon light made of?
- How did Ashwatthama die in the Mahabharat?
- Who played the title role in Hitchcock's Rebecca?
-----
While you ponder over those without googling, here's some jokes:
Q: How do you tell if a blonde did your landscaping?
A: The bushes are darker than the rest of the yard
(Puhlease-don't ask me to explain.ROFL)
--
Guy: "Let's wait 'til June to get married. It won't be long until June."
Girl Friend(excited): "Wow- How much longer will' it' be then?"
---
Till next time, keep up those compliments-for everyone you know. Let's make our surroundings (including blogville)a better place to be in!

Hello Amit.

I liked this post.:)Expressed wonderfully.

***So, are you willing to give this a try? Today,tomorrow- whenever, treat everything and everyone with a smile,or, at least, without a frown.

I started this at the beginning of last week. And i have to say it helps so much. Makes me a happier person. :D

***In other words, forget that the world is out to get you.

I like that statement.

One thing, i noticed. Humans always have something to find fault with even if its not so bad. Maybe its juz a bad habit until reality hit them.

Have a great day Amit.

Cheeries!

Sometimes we forget people have so much happening on their minds, so many issues we may not know about...

Generally am all smiles, till I am crossed- need to learn to let go gracefully even if its a wrongdoing.

Hi,Amy...I just knew you'd concur with my views on this topic...and,thanks for proving it-that being nice does wonders for one's own self. And,you're right-it IS in human nature to try and find something to crib about.Perhaps it's because life's never perfect.:)
----
Hi,Keshi-yes,when people try to take advantage of your good nature, you definitely shouldn't take it lying down. But,instead of retaliating, the best way is to let them know in a dignified way. When you scream/shout,they've achieved their objective, right?
Re. the awards- I already did!!:)Tks..the next post will be my 'forwarding'of these awards.:)
----
Hi,Austy-so true-even I do tend to forget sometimes that people have so much happening in their minds-but,then,is that any reason for them to let out vitriolic statements? It reeks of immaturity,na?
I do try and put myself in such peoples' shoes, before retorting, but, sometimes,it just doesn't work.

Hi,Red...hey,you're sooo right..and,reading your blog is one of those pleasures..keep on writing like you always do!!:)
