Explanations

Thought for the day: How people treat you is their karma. How you react is yours…Wayne Dyer

Do you go to the supermarket to return a product you don’t need and end up giving a mile long explanation which was not asked for by the counter clerk? You tell him’ You see, I purchased this for my …… But, it turns out that we were already having a stock of this item, and I didn’t know about it.’….and so on and so forth.

Or, go to the railway station and see someone desperately trying to get the date on his railway ticket changed. And, he’s explaining how his Dada’s brother’s wife’s sister’s husband’s child’s cousin has changed his or her mind, or, has fallen ill and hence they cannot leave on the day of the visit and hence the ticket needs to be changed. And, if it were him himself, he would travel by the same train but, this generation does not understand and he has another brother who’s child’s mausi’s husband’s brother is also the same, and keeps changing his travel plans.

Have you ever wondered- why do we give explanations to complete(perfect?) strangers? Do we think that the supermarket counter clerk or the railway booking clerk is bothered with our explanations? If the product can be returned or the ticket can be exchanged, they’ll do it, irrespective of the explanations. If it cannot, it cannot.

There was this movie ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’, where Anupam Kher plays such a typical character. He goes to meet the estate broker, and goes off into details of each of his sons, the younger one’s studying in college, which line he has taken up, what he wants to do, and the elder son wanting to go to the States and so on. And,the broker coolly says’ Aap paise laaye hain’? That quietens down the ole chap.

But, then, there are people who’re happy to lend a sympathetic(?) ear to listen to your woes, and even give suggestions sometimes, good or bad. (Even I’m a good listener, and hence become an Agony Uncle for some people, sometimes because it just serves as an outlet for their pressures to reduce..*ahem*) But, it’s not like these people are perfect strangers. I mean, I wouldn’t be able to help yawning if a stranger at work or the bus stop began telling me his life story.

Test to determine aptitude: (Got this as a forward today. So, let’s try it on you)

Read this question, come up with an answer and then scroll down to the bottom for the result. This is not a trick question. It is as it reads. No one I know has got it right.

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister.

Question: What is her motive for killing her sister?
[Give this some thought before you answer-answer next time]

On to the end jokes:

The local bookstore had this huge display with a sign advertising, "Newly Translated From the Original French book: 37 Mating Positions." The book was already wrapped in plain brown wrapper and the guy just had to buy one. Once safely at home and alone, he opened it and found that he had just purchased an expensive book about... chess.

As the horror movie was about to reach its terrifying conclusion, the coed began fidgeting in her seat. The man sitting behind her leaned forward and inquired, "Excuse me. Are you feeling hysterical?" "No," she whispered. "He's feeling mine."
--
Then there was this guy. He always said that he is not attracted by a girl's mind ... But by what she doesn't mind.

Till next time, keep smiling.

My cousin's like that.. I tend to zone out when she talks.

the Chess one was funny. heh.

I find myself staying away from people's stories. I tend to carry their baggage- and its mostly negative and has a cost attached.
