Games, Chanakya,et al

Thought for the day: If Practice makes perfect, and nobody's perfect, then why practice?

At a recent get-together just before Diwali, our group of friends had got together. Some of the interesting ‘participation’ games which came up, which were quite new to me,were:
- A chair was placed on the stage. The announced said’ the first person to put a picture of his spouse(from his wallet) on this chair, wins a prize’.
- On the same chair, the next one from the announcer- ‘the first person to put the smallest Indian currency on the chair, wins the prize’.
- This one was like Housie:A card containing 16 squares(Or, was it 15?) just like in house, was given to everyone. Their task- everyone has to move around the room and get people to sign their name in a blank square. Then, just like housie, chits of all the names were put in a basket, and one by one, each name was read out. And, again, just as in housie, there were four corners, quick 5, three lines and a full house prize. (I don't want to reveal the excitement which was there amongst people when the cards were handed out)

Some sent me these quotes from Chanakya once again, and, I thought I must share the main ones with you. One can imagine the wisdom of the man who, even then, knew that these will remain facts for life:

Chanakya quotes (Indian politician, strategist and writer, 350 BC 75 BC)

"A person should not be too honest.
Straight trees are cut first
and Honest people are screw*ed first."
***************************************************
"Even if a snake is not poisonous,
it should pretend to be venomous."
***************************************************
"The biggest guru-mantra is: Never share your secrets with anybody! It will destroy you."
***************************************************
"There is some self-interest behind every friendship.
There is no Friendship without self-interests.
This is a bitter truth."
***************************************************
"Before you start some work, always ask yourself three questions - Why am I doing it, What the results might be and Will I be successful. Only when you think deeply
and find satisfactory answers to these questions, go ahead."
***************************************************
]"As soon as the fear approaches near, attack and destroy it."
***************************************************
"Once you start working on something,
don't be afraid of failure and
don't abandon it.
People who work sincerely are the happiest."
***************************************************
"Treat your kid like a darling for the first five years.
For the next five years, scold them.
By the time they turn sixteen, treat them like a friend.
Your grown up children are your best friends."
***************************************************
"Books are as useful to a stupid person
as a mirror is useful to a blind person."
***************************************************

Positively brilliant, na, whichever perspective you put them in, whether at work or in personal life, especially the secrets one, the snake one, the honest person one,et al.

The week’s letters/answers:
Open Space: answer to question :
"
Q:Who is Che Guevara?
A:Ernesto Che Guevara was a Cuban revolutionary leader. Though communism may have lost its fire, he remains the symbol of rebellion and the alluring zeal of revolution. By the time Ernesto Guevara, known to us as Che, was murdered in the jungles of Bolivia in October 1967, he was already a legend, not only in Latin America but also around the world. His fearless last words, reportedly, were “Shoot, coward, you’re only going to kill a man”.
— Amit Loiwal, via e-mail"
(I love Open Space- so informative)

Weekly letter in Weekend:

End jokes:
Q: How do men exercise at the beach?
A: By pulling in their stomachs each time they see a bik*ni pass by.

Read this one carefully
A cardiologist died and was given an elaborate Funeral. A huge heart covered in flowers stood behind the casket during the service.

Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the casket rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the Doctor in the beautiful heart forever.

At that point, one of the mourners burst into laughter.. When all eyes stared at him, he said, 'I'm sorry, I was just thinking of my own funeral........I'm a gynaec.'

The proctologist fainted!

Till next time, keep smiling.

The mirror pic is so true!

Though, some of Chanakya's quotes might have some truth to them...some I don;t agree...like friendship...self-interest...I'd like to be an optimist/escapist?
