Of beaches and much more

(Caption for the above pic: Would you be scared to go here?)

Thought for the day: Without God, our week is: Mournday, Tearsday, Wasteday, Thirstday, Fighday, Shatterday and Sinday. So, allow Him to be with you every day!"

This week’s winning caption for the photo showing a fan excitedly holding out her tongue while holding the new Harry Potter book, was pretty good, looking at it ‘pun’itively. Here’s the link- mine’s under’ Amit,Dubai’ as usual.

The winner’s caption(Not on the website, but in print edition):

‘It was tough getting a copy. But, I’m glad I stuck it out’.

(Nice pun, the second line).

And, hey, how about a caption for this week’s pic, from the movie 300?

The same paper has highlighted the duties of a Dubai lifeguard, and some of the duties are unusual, to say the least. Here they are:

1)Ensuring everyone is in proper attire: No n*dity, swimming fully clothed or un un*erwear. (So, you can’t walk into the water in your clothes, or without them)

2) Making sure nobody is playing football in crowded areas.( If you’re hurt by a beach volleyball, it’s ok?)

3)Catching voyeurs who peer at sun bathers. (and, those who surreptitiously photograph them?)

But, one thing’s sure- Dubai’s beaches are excellent.(Even though I haven't been to one since quite some time)Crystal clear water, minimal rubbish on the sands. (Can’t say zero rubbish…human nature still hasn’t changed to that extent). Though, in this 45 deg C weather, I wonder how many people brave the sun’s UV rays?

----

Weather reminds me, UAE had it’s hottest days of the season, two days back. Al Ain(One of the Emirates) had 47.7 deg C, Abu Dhabi had 45 deg C, Dubai had 44 deg C. Today also, it’s hot n humid since morning. (I went for my walk and bit late, and returned in thirty minutes, fully drenched like I’d been caught in a passing shower). It makes me wonder- why’d people need to spend money on a steam bath/ sauna? They just need to go down and stand in the sun(Even the shade) for half an hour and, if brave enough, go for a walk/ jog. That would reduce a kilo of weight, probably.

-----

It happened, finally- one of the mineral water companies, admitted that they put tapwater in their bottles and sell it. According to the report, except for one company in the Northern Emirates, the rest get the water from the springs in Al Ain, Hatta, and other areas.. And, this one particular company, admitted about tapwater. Incidentally, did you know that out here, mineral water and gasoline(petrol) cost nearly the same?

End joke:

Harry had proudly demonstrated his new ultracompact sports car to his date of the evening and had spun the little wonder to a halt on a lonely country road. After a considerable amount of amorous preliminaries, his girl coyly jumped out of the car and headed for a mossy spot nearby. Noticing that Harry wasn't following, she turned and said, "Hurry and get out of the car before I get out of the mood." Harry struggled for a minute, then mournfully said, "Until I get out of the mood, I can't get out of the car!"

Word is in from the Middle East about the sultan who left a call for 'seven in the morning'.

----

Origin of 'smells fishy':

One fine morning in Eden, God was looking for Adam and Eve, but couldn't find them. Later in the day God saw Adam and asked where he and Eve were earlier. Adam said, "The morning Eve and I made love for the first time."
God said, "Adam, you have sinned. I knew this would happen. Where is Eve now?"
Adam replied, "She's down at the river, washing herself out."
"Damn," says God, "now all the fish will smell funny."

And, that’s how the phrase’ Smells fishy’ came about.

Till next time, keep smiling.
