Proud to be Indian

Thought for the day:We are what we pretend to be, but we better be very careful what we pretend.

I got this email on 25.07. What do you think?

“Today is Veerapan's 2nd death anniversary; in his memory please forward this message to at least 1 criminal as I did. In his memory let us all switch off our pc's for atleast" 10mins...........18th January 1952 - 25th July 2005“
LOL…what will people think up next.

Seen the Big B’s latest ad for Cadbury’s chocolate? It shows him fatally banging his head, when on the way to buy one of the supposedly scrumptious chocs, and, since his soul cannot purchase one, it enters the body of a curvy gal(She feels a jerk(no pun intended) when he enters and leaves her body), and, goes and demands a Dairy Milk in his voice from the shocked shop keeper…As soon as the ‘aatma’ is satiated, it leaves the gal.:)
Ooph- I just found out..There’s a website for these ‘meetha moments’.So, for those who’re not fed up of ads, here it is.

LOLlable Bollywood quote of the week comes from Salman Khan, who had a cold:
“If I sing now, I will sound like Himesh Reshamiya”- now, was that meant to be a compliment, I wonder?

Very frankly, I think the following email identifying Indian habits, made me feel quite proud. If you read between the lines, besides being humorous, it means that we are contributing a lot to saving our natural resources, which is more than can be said about most other nations: (Figures in brackets indicate my remarks)

-You try and reuse gift wrappers, gift boxes, and of course aluminum foil.(Saving on expensive new paper)

- You peel the stamps off letters that the Postal Service missed to stamp.(Saving the cost of new stamps, though, of course, in these days of email, how much postal mail do you get?)

- You recycle Wedding Gifts , Birthday Gifts and Anniversary Gifts.( Saves the cost of new gifts(And, so, the original cost of manufacturing these gifts to sell as new gifts is saved)

- You take Indian snacks anywhere it says "No Food Allowed"(Thereby saving the cost of restaurant/outside food, hence, your health, hence, visits to the Doc)

- You load up the family car with as many people as possible.(Hence, saving on expensive gasoline/petrol/diesel/wear and tear of roads…oops..that’s a bit far-fetched)

- You use plastic to cover anything new in your house whether it's the remote control, VCR, carpet or new couch.(Hence, prolonging the life of products- a made-to-last-for-two-years product lasts ten)

- You buy and display crockery, which is never used , as it is for special occasions, which never happen.(Hence, saving on the cost of buying more expensive crockery each year)- You have a vinyl tablecloth on your kitchen table.(Hence, saving on paper mats, cloth mats, etc- the vinyl ones are easily washable)

- You use grocery bags to hold garbage.( Hence, no need to buy garbage bags. I see other nationality people throwing away grocery bags in garbage bags…what a waste of plastic)

- You keep leftover food in your fridge in as many numbers of bowls as possible.(Hence, saving on cost of food)

- Your kitchen shelf is full of jars, varieties of bowls and plastic utensils (got free with purchase of other stuff )( Hence, saving cost of manufacturing of new stuff, and your saving against buying new stuff)

- You carry a stash of your own food whenever you travel (and travel means any car ride longer than 15 minutes).( Hence, saving against chances of buying food at any petrol pump convenience stop)

- You own a rice cooker and a pressure cooker.(Hence, saving on cost of other methods of cooking)

- You don't use measuring cups when cooking.(If you need less masala, use less masala-no need to go ‘buy and by’ the book)

- You never learnt how to stand in a queue.( Saving time for yourself, your company, the world)- You only make long distance calls after 11 p.m.(Saving your cost of calling at regular hours)

- You have bed sheets on your sofas so as to keep them from getting dirty.(Saving on the cost of replacing sofa cloths every few months)- All your Tupperware is stained with food color.( Saving on cost of buying new Tupperware/equivalent)

- You have drinking glasses made of steel.(Saving on glass glasses, which have a tendency to fall every few days, and, forcing you to buy more to ‘keep up’ the set…and, of course, the garbage added to the world’s garbage, courtesy the broken glass)

- You have mastered the art of bargaining in shopping.
(Saving for yourself, and, making manufacturers’ more value addition(Deletion?) conscious when making their products. )

Great, is it not, if you look at it in the right perspective? On the other side, if you don’t agree on some of the points, you’re also probably right, because you have worked hard enough to come out of these economy drives.

Second part, about our ‘tastes’ in food, friends, family, et al. coming up in the next post.
------Lastly, here’s The end-joke:

Husband: "How about a little action tonight, honey?"
Wife: "Over my dead body!"
Husband: "How else?"

Till next time, keep SmilinG.
