I found something that brought back nice memories, recently.
Here's Page 2 of the first one:
Poetic, emotional, versatile, occasionally confused. ___are sensitive to others' needs, frequently neglecting their own. Kind and charitable, they can use this as an excuse to opt out of the rat-race, when it is really lack of self-confidence that holds them back. Their fund of warm emotion is wonderfully expressed towards a partner, who should be sound and sensible enough to ensure their imagination doesn't run away with them. they must also watch out for self-deception, and for the little white lie which can entangle them in a web of deceipt. They make excellent nurses, sometimes sacrificing marriage for a vocational career; they are often creative.
Any idea which sun sign this refers to? Haha- of course- you guessed right- the front page of the card(You're right- it was a box with some greeting cards of the unsent type) says:
19th Feb-20th March
Ruling Planet: Neptune
I found this card while rummaging through a box that has probably been in the same condition since I left for Dxb in 2002.
It brought back memories- of days when Archies cards were a craze for me.( There was one more brand which gave competition to Archies. Anyone remember what that was?). Why just Archies cards? Any stationery shop that had some good cards, some good writing pads, etc was a rarity and a 'must-visit' either in Baroda or when I was in one of the cities..like 'Giggles' or 'Teksons' in Delhi, Archies(I think it was) at Churchgate. Can't really imagine going more than 15 minutes away from location now, to buy a birthday or any other occasion card.(If at all required, that is)
The a/m card was one I got for a co-Piscean penpal, and then found so much of it matching my character traits(And, partly even now), except of course the nursing part, the lack of self-confidence part and the web of deceipt part(though a harmless white lie that does not harm anyone,is fine, isn't it?), that I sent one and got one for myself, by sacrificing the purchase of some other item, probably, coz the card cost a princely sum of Rs. 8/-. (As I mentioned earlier, I used to carry a princely amount of Rs 17/- even in college days, but, a lot of value was attached to that Rs 17/-). What fun it was scanning through the racks with their neatly titled card rows, picking up a card, comparing it with another...sheer bliss.
Some other unsent cards I found- Belated birthday wishes, Merry Xmas,My best friend-my teacher, congratulations, thanks, anniversary and some fun ones. The ones I like now have the following quotes:
Do not worry about the blues...You'll soon be in the pink of health.(Card colours are blue and pink on front and next page)
I am sick of sick people and since you are one...(Page 1)
Whom I don't want to get sick of!!So you be sick of sickness and get well soon.
For your birthday, it's time you developed the useful sixth sense...(Page 1)
..Common sense(Page 2)
There's no nicer word than 'friend'
There's no nicer friend than you.
Anyone interested in exchanging postal greetings? Let me know..it'd be nice to see what my favourite bloggers' (plural.:)) writing is like!!(It's bound to be good, of course)
I can also recollect the pleasure I had in picking out these cards then, for sending to people....and, then came the internet onslaught..and, these cards went to storage boxes and we moved to e-cards...e-cards that people don't even read many times, and forward just like that...e-cards that are addressed to 25 people(And you can see their id, since the person did not put them in bcc), the subject says:FW..a greeting for you... and, below, the forwarded person's name and the 50 odd people he forwarded to also appear in the list.
Does that make sense?I mean, why do you want to treat sending of greetings as an obligation? I prefer to either personalize a greeting, or not send it at all. I mean, I don't recall who the above person was, who sent a forwarded card. Would you?
There's one bag I have at another place, that had stored a lot of my favourite 'received' greeting cards, as also my DXing(Shortwave listening) stock of viewcards, et al..let's see if I can find it.
Till next time, cheerio and Take Care!
