Anger

(Quip: Our erstwhile cricket team-always alert)

Thought for the day: The true measure of an individual is how he treats a person who can do him absolutely no good….Ann Landers

Why do people get angry? What causes that rush of blood right upto our face, which makes us suddenly fly off the handle and scream/shout/fight?

I am a member of this quaint books library , and while I was there a few days back, one guy came in, with some books which he was returning pretty late.
The (always smiling) library lady told him’ Sir, you have some amount over-due from last time also. We have not cancelled your amount yet.’
And, that was enough to set off the guy on a tirade.
‘What’s that you said?’ he demanded.
She says’ You have some amount over-due’.
‘No, after that what did you say?’
She says’ We have not cancelled your amount’.
‘No,no…you said something else, I am sure. Repeat it’.
I got bugged, listening to him, so I clarified ‘ What she means is that they have not cancelled your amount from their system yet’.
The guy looked daggers and me and walked out in a huff.
LOL..I bet he was ready to pick a fight-probably had a tough day at work (Or,a fight with the Biwi, immediately after returning home)and wanted to let some steam off, so, his ears heard what he wanted to hear.
(He heard 'account' instead of ‘amount’)

You can see this anger manifesting itself in many ways, sometimes on the road, when irate drivers are waving their fists at people who do not let them overtake, sometimes at work when someone insists that only he is right and knowledgeable and others are equally bent upon proving him wrong/ letting him feel ‘that small’, etc.
---
So, tell me, when do you fly off the handle? And, afterwards, do you think and feel that you need not have gotten so angry, but, still, your ego keeps you from saying ‘sorry’? Do share your experiences. And, what do you do for 'anger management'?
---
Incidentally, I read this about ‘anger’, and, I find it to be true most of the time:
Anger is a natural response that all people have. It is caused by two basic things:
(1) Frustration: Not getting what we want, especially if we were expecting to get it;
(2) Feeling that others do not respect us or care how we feel.

There are many specific things that may cause anger, but they all boil down to those two basic principles.

I always feel that the One Above, having given us this emotion, amongst a host of others, just sits back and enjoys the fun, while people continue to shorten their lives arguing, snarling, screaming, shouting, murdering.

If I was granted a wish to change in humanity, it would be to delete the hormone(or, whatever it is) that causes anger. Wouldn’t the world be a nicer place to live in?

Won a prize in last week’s Weekend magazine. Here’s the link. Frankly, I quite enjoyed writing this letter- it was all about ‘tips’.

Can you imagine a horrific accident involving 200 cars? Happened early morning on the A.D.- Dubai highway. Here's the link.

On to the end jokes:

A pretty young blonde visiting her new doctor for the first time found herself alone in a small waiting room.

She began undressing nervously, preparing herself for the upcoming examination. Just as she draped the last of her garments over the back of a chair, a light rap sounded on the door and a young doctor strode in.

Coming to an abrupt halt, the doctor looked his n*de patient up and down carefully and with considerable appreciation.

"Miss Smith," he said finally, "it seems quite obvious to me that until today you have never undergone an eye examination."

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room.
When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover.
The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, "What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?"

Till next time, keep smiling.

That is so true! ppl always 'expect' something in return. so the true test will be if u can be really nice to someone who wudnt give anything in return.

**I bet he was ready to pick a fight-probably had a tough day at work

LOL Amit Im glad u r SENSIBLE. What a loser thar guy was!

Another one of those musings post! :) ... I hate it when ppl vent out their frustrations on others, like the man tried to do with the library lady. But I still wouldn't want to delete the anger hormone completely - it might be necessary sometimes when sadists need to be punished :P

and the accident looks terrible! thanks for the news!

lastly, congrats on winning yet another prize! You're going great guns! *grin*
